Literally a screen shot. One of the saddest days in Star Trek TNG history.

The realest that TNG ever got, death without drama or reason.

And all so Denise Crosby could kick off her illustrious feature film career...which died just as quickly as Tasha Yar did.

I’m glad she left. I was never particularly a fan of the Tasha Yar character. Plus, her departure made room for Worf and his character development. He went from an almost completely animalistic two-dimensional character that did little more than grunt to a pretty nuanced character.
His character dealt with a lot of themes that are relatable to those in the Star Trek audience who don’t come from lily white, privileged backgrounds. He dealt with adoption and reconciling his cultural heritage with that of his adoptive family. That eventually led to him reconnecting with the parts of his culture he had lost. He dealt with being a single parent. He dealt with being a minority (both as a Klingon in general amongst a crew of mostly humans and being the only Klingon in Starfleet, to being a bit of a pariah within the Klingon community, too, for being orphaned and then accused of being without honor for the supposed sins of his father). He also dealt with being a religious minority in a culture that has largely abandoned organized religion.
Tasha Yar was an orphan, too, and grew up empoverished. Beverly Crusher was a single parent, too. But neither character tells those stories and struggles quite as eloquently as Michael Dorn’s Worf. He and Geordie LaForge were the only minority cast members on the show. So yeah, no love lost with Yar’s pointless death. It came early enough in the TNG series anyway, when there wasn’t as much cohesiveness to the overall storyline.

I will not deny that Warf is one of my favorite Star Trek characters of all time. I just caught this episode last night and was reminded of some of the old characters. They also had the old doctor who I think I like more than Beverly.

I found Worf painfully relatable. Made Worf-centric episodes difficult to watch.

Wait....Wut? Pulaski? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say that.

Yea, but she will always be the first woman to use a walking, talking dildo. THAT is some TNG history right there.
